SHELTON — Two Bremerton residents died Wednesday when the car they were in crossed the center line on Highway 101 five miles north of Shelton and hit a logging truck.
Washington State Patrol identified one of the victims as Stephen Jacobson, 65. Jacobson was driving the 1996 Saturn northbound when it collided head-on with the southbound logging truck. The Saturn was totaled.
The name of the passenger, a 64-year-old woman, was not released. WSP had still not been able to contact her next of kin as of Friday, said Trooper Chelsea Hodgson.
The truck's driver and sole occupant was a 44-year-old man from Port Angeles who was not injured.
Neither drugs nor alcohol was a factor in the collision, according to the WSP. Highway 101 was closed for five hours during the investigation.

The crash occurred around 5:20 a.m. on State Route 101 in Mason County, just north of Shelton.
Stephen J. Jacobson, 65, was fatally injured as was a female passenger who has not been named. Mr. Jacobson’s family has been notified.
The collision occurred when a Kenworth logging truck collided with a four-door passenger car being driven by Mr. Jacobson, a WSP memo stated. According to Trooper Chelsea Hodgson:
“The passenger car was traveling NB on SR 101. The semi was traveling SB. It appears the passenger car crossed over the center line into the path of the semi.”
The cause remains under investigation, police said.
The truck driver, 44-year-old Todd E. Dewey, was not injured in the crash.
Dewey is a commercial truck driver who has been featured in multiple seasons of the reality TV series “Ice Road Truckers” on the History channel.
Dewey did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Neither drugs nor alcohol were involved, police said, and no arrests were made. The road was closed for approximately five hours following the crash.
